Shelves for server racks - Key accessories for organising IT equipment
Rack shelves for server racks are indispensable accessories for mounting and organising various types of IT equipment which are not standardised for installation in racks. They allow devices such as routers, servers, switches or office accessories to be safely stored in the rack, ensuring easy access and optimal use of space.
Rack shelf types
- Fixed shelves - Designed for permanent installation, they provide a stable and solid place to store heavier equipment. They are ideal for mounting equipment that requires a stable base.
- Pull-out shelves - allow easy access to equipment thanks to the extendable shelf. Ideal for mounting equipment that requires frequent servicing or access.
- Perforated shelves - They provide better ventilation for equipment, which is crucial for devices that generate a lot of heat. The perforated shelves help to maintain the right temperature inside the rack.
How do I choose the right rack shelf?
- Dimensions: Always check the dimensions of the shelf before purchasing to ensure that it will fit your rack. Inappropriate dimensions can cause problems with installation and organisation of the space in the rack.
- Shelf depth: Choose a shelf with a depth that fits your rack and the devices you intend to place on it. For example, a shelf with a depth of 250 mm will be sufficient for smaller devices, such as a Extralink 1U 250mm. For larger appliances that require more space, a 600mm deep shelf would be a better choice, as the Extralink 1U 600mm.
- Load capacity: Make sure that the shelf you choose has sufficient load bearing capacity to support the weight of the equipment you will place on it. Shelves with a higher load-bearing capacity are essential for mounting heavier equipment.
- Shelf type: Consider whether you need a fixed shelf or a pull-out shelf. If you plan to mount equipment that needs frequent access, a pull-out shelf may be a better choice. However, if the equipment will be permanently mounted, a fixed shelf will be more appropriate.
- VentilationFor appliances that generate a lot of heat, choose a perforated shelf for better airflow and cooling.
