Extralink as a manufacturer of network equipment
Extralink Hypnos / Hypnos Pro
Senior Extralink Hypnos Pro has 24 ports with PoE power supply and a total power of 450W.
Extralink Nemezis / Nemezis Pro
Just as Hypnos Pro - Nemesis Pro has the ability to power connected devices through PoE on all of its 48 ports. Conveniently, you can control the power on the ports and can switch it off if necessary. The Nemesis has a total power of 500W, which is enough to use all ports with VoIP telephony, for example.
User interface
After unpacking the Nemesis/Nemesis Pro and Hypnos/Hypnos Pro, you will notice that the DHCP server is not activated by default, preventing the laptop from connecting directly to the switch. To establish a connection, you first need to set the IP address of the Ethernet interface on the laptop to 192.168.1.x with a mask of 255.255.255.0. Make sure that the address is not set to 192.168.1.200, as this is the default IP address of the Nemesis/Nemesis Pro and Hypnos/Hypnos Pro switches.
The switches can be accessed as standard via the console port or via HTTP at 192.168.1.200. The default login credentials are admin/admin, which it is recommended to change to more complex ones to increase the security of the devices.
The main page of the user interface immediately shows relevant information about the device. CPU load and RAM usage data are available here. The device's ports are clearly presented, and it is easy to see which ports are currently active, view detailed information about each port and, if required, go directly to the page with options for editing the settings of a particular port.
Zakładka „Status” contains general device information, logs, port details including statistics and individual port errors, a MAC address table and a port aggregation table. W zakładce „Network” is the ability to configure DNS, add, change or delete hosts, as well as set the system clock. Zakładka „Port” offers options for configuring each port, disabling error checking, channel aggregation settings, EEE and Jumbo Frame, as well as port locking configurations and Storm Control. Zakładka „POE Settings” allows you to monitor the total power consumption and temperature of the switch, as well as enable or disable PoE power on the ports. An interesting feature is the ability to schedule PoE power, which is useful for VoIP telephony, for example, allowing power to be turned off at weekends and out of hours to save energy. Zakładka „VLAN” enables the creation, configuration, deletion and assignment of virtual networks to ports or port groups. Zakładka „MAC Address Table” displays the MAC address table, allows the static definition of VLANs for a specific MAC address and MAC address-related configuration. Zakładki „Spanning Tree” i „ERPS” are used to precisely configure the device and ports to prevent loops and other network problems.
Zakładka „Discovery” enables the configuration of the Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), which allows network devices to exchange important information with each other. Zakładka „Routing” is a key feature that differentiates Layer 2 switches from Layer 3 switches, allowing the creation of static and dynamic routes between local and virtual networks. Routes can be customised according to IPv4, IPv6, Rip, Ospf standards. Zakładka „Security” includes a wide range of settings and protocols to ensure network protection against DoS attacks, unauthorised access and other threats. It also allows configuration of device management via various protocols such as SSH, Telnet, HTTP, HTTPS, SNMP. Zakładka „ACL” (Access Control List) allows the configuration of rule lists that determine the availability of service ports or domain names on hosts or other OSI Layer 3 devices, with the ability to manage network traffic on the router like a firewall. Zakładka „QoS” offers packet prioritisation tools with 8 available priority levels, making it easy to prioritise VoIP communications, IPTV, multimedia and video streams. Configuration of sending or receiving data rate limits is also available. Zakładka „Diagnostics” allows the monitoring of device and network performance or error history, port and SFP module diagnostics, checking the availability of a remote host and the path to it, and checking patchcords and their length. Latest zakładka „Management” allows adding, changing or deleting user accounts with access to the switch, changing passwords or priorities, as well as backing up settings, restoring factory settings and updating the device's firmware.
